Role Description:
As an Employment Counsel with World, you will focus on providing strategic legal counsel on employment-related matters, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and supporting HR and business leadership. The ideal candidate is a team player with excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills and the ability to manage numerous matters and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
Advise HR and management on employment law matters, including hiring, terminations, performance management, workplace investigations, accommodations, and wage and hour compliance.
Draft and oversee amendments to employment agreements as needed, including those related to terminations, extensions, and other changes in employment terms.
Spearhead the review, and update employment policies, handbooks, and other HR-related documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
Oversee and manage internal investigations related to employee complaints, discrimination, harassment, and other workplace issues.
Provide guidance on employee benefits, compensation, and workplace safety regulations.
Assist in responding to EEOC, DOL, and other administrative agency charges, audits, and investigations.
Support litigation strategy and work with outside counsel on employment-related disputes and claims.
Monitor changes in labor and employment laws and proactively update policies and practices.
Develop and conduct training for HR and management on employment law topics, including workplace compliance and best practices.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders on employee relations, corporate policies, and risk mitigation strategies.
Qualifications:
JD from an accredited law school.
Bar membership in good standing.
A minimum of 7-10 years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or legal department supporting the insurance industry.
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, and related regulations.
Experience handling workplace investigations and compliance matters.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Strong business acumen and ability to provide practical legal solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in common office software applications.
