Position Summary
World Insurance is seeking an Employee Benefits Underwriting Consultant to join our Underwriting & Analytics team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating and pricing employer-sponsored health and welfare programs, supporting service, sales and clients with data-driven insights, and ensuring competitive, accurate, and compliant financial recommendations. This role partners closely with internal teams, carriers, and vendors to deliver optimal plan strategies.
You will develop advanced financial models, assess utilization and risk trends, and translate complex financial and contractual data into clear, actionable insights that support renewal strategy, plan design, and long-term cost management. You will mentor analysts and provide direction on projects, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial deliverables and guiding data-driven decision-making for our clients.

Office work involves working at a desk most of the time, using a stand-up/sit-down adjustable desk. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Compensation
This position is located in New Jersey. The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range from $85,600 to $105,800. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including business needs, experience, level of responsibility, and qualifications. Position Summary
World Insurance is seeking an Employee Benefits Underwriting Consultant to join our Underwriting & Analytics team. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating and pricing employer-sponsored health and welfare programs, supporting service, sales and clients with data-driven insights, and ensuring competitive, accurate, and compliant financial recommendations. This role partners closely with internal teams, carriers, and vendors to deliver optimal plan strategies.
You will develop advanced financial models, assess utilization and risk trends, and translate complex financial and contractual data into clear, actionable insights that support renewal strategy, plan design, and long-term cost management. You will mentor analysts and provide direction on projects, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial deliverables and guiding data-driven decision-making for our clients.
Primary Responsibilities
- Analyze medical, pharmacy, stop loss, dental, and vision experience to develop renewal projections and rate recommendations.
- Serve as the primary underwriting resource for assigned clients (typically 250–5,000+ employees), supporting funding arrangements including fully insured, level funded, and self-funded programs.
- Refine and maintain underwriting models for fully insured and self-funded clients.
- Evaluate plan design changes, contribution strategies, and funding arrangements.
- Support RFP processes, including carrier negotiations and financial comparisons.
- Interpret and communicate underwriting results to consultants and clients.
- Identify cost drivers, trends, and risk factors impacting plan performance.
- Collaborate with PBMs, stop-loss carriers, and other vendors to optimize pricing and structure.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Assist in developing client presentations and financial exhibits.
- Provide strategic financial insight to sales and service teams, acting as a resource on pricing, funding strategies, and market dynamics within employee benefits.
- Participate in client strategy discussions and presentations when appropriate, translating complex financial and fully insured underwriting concepts into clear, actionable insights.
- Develop and model alternative plan designs, funding structures, and cost-containment strategies to support long-term client objectives.
- Partner closely with internal sales, service, and SME teams (e.g., Population Health Management, Communications, and Compliance) to develop comprehensive benefit strategies.
- Ensure proper utilization of department’s financial and management systems including BenefitPoint, PerfectQuote, Blue Raven and other related analytical platforms.
- Support new business pursuits by providing financial analysis, proposal comparisons, and underwriting insights during the prospecting process.
- Be an internal resource for peer review processes for the team to maintain high standards of analytical accuracy, financial integrity, and consistency.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior analysts and underwriting team members as needed.
- Perform other strategic and analytical responsibilities as assigned.
- 2-5+ years of experience in employee benefits underwriting or actuarial services.
- Bachelor’s degree, CEBS/other professional designation or equivalent work experience required.
- Life & Health insurance license (or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced remote environment with some oversight and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, modeling, formatting) and strong skills in Word and other MS Office tools such as PowerBI.
- Understanding and/or prior use of Claros, Blue Raven, or other actuarial modeling tools is ideal.
- Technical experience with BenefitPoint, AI, Benefit Administration Systems, and Carrier Portals is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities, with the ability to work with complex data and variables.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team-oriented, client-focused, and able to build effective working relationships with colleagues, carriers, and clients.
- Commitment to staying current on industry trends, regulations, and emerging products.
