World Insurance Associates is hiring a National Surety Leader, responsible for the strategic direction, growth, and profitability of a company’s surety bond portfolio across the U.S. This role combines technical expertise and market knowledge with senior leadership and business development skills.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Work with other senior leaders to define and execute the national strategy for surety products, including practice growth, market expansion and product development.
- Portfolio Management: Oversee the national profit and loss (P&L), ensuring disciplined, profitable growth while managing risk accumulations.
- Team Development: Lead current team, while continuing to identify opportunities to add staff in key geographies. Responsible for fostering a culture of high performance.
- Market Presence: Build and maintain deep relationships with carriers, key clients, and industry associations.
Key Qualifications
- Experience: 10 years of extensive surety experience, with at least 5 years in a significant leadership or management capacity.
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Finance

- Commercial Mindset: Ability to balance aggressive business growth with strict risk mitigation.
- Influence & Negotiation: Skilled at navigating complex negotiations with large corporate clients and national brokers.
- Analytical Prowess: Ability to interpret market trends and economic shifts to adjust underwriting appetite proactively.
Core Roles & Responsibilities
1. Strategic Leadership & Growth
- Revenue Management: Drive continuous organic growth and meet annual top-line revenue targets (often 7% -15%) for the surety practice.
- Practice Strategy: Develop national or regional strategies to enhance the firm's market positioning and scalability.
- Pipeline Oversight: Manage the sales pipeline, oversee producer behavior, and lead strategic initiatives to acquire new "at-risk" or complex accounts.
2. Market & Carrier Relationship Management
- Executive Negotiation: Cultivate senior-level relationships with top-tier surety carriers to secure favorable capacity, terms, and indemnity conditions for clients.
- Market Intelligence: Monitor surety market conditions, legislative changes, and economic trends to advise clients on program structures.
- Placement Strategy: Lead the process for high-limit or sophisticated surety facilities, including preparing placement memorandums and negotiating with underwriters.
3. Operational Excellence & Risk Management
- Quality Standards: Set and enforce standards for underwriting quality, ensuring all submissions and narratives are best-in-class.
- Claims Advocacy: Provide leadership on high-severity bond claims, acting as an executive advocate to resolve disputes between clients and sureties.
- Governance: Establish best practices for CRM adoption, renewal processes, and compliance with state licensing requirements (e.g., P&C and Surplus)
4. Client Advisory & Technical Oversight
- Strategic Advisor: Act as a trusted advisor to C-suite executives, particularly for large construction firms, regarding their financial strength and bonding capacity.
- Technical Review: Oversee the analysis of complex financial statements, Work in Progress (WIP) reports, and indemnity agreements to maximize client credit.
5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Practice Leaders are typically measured by:
- Organic Growth %: Success in expanding the current book of business.
- Retention Rate: Maintaining a high year-over-year retention of existing surety clients (often 92%+).
- New Business Production: Total new premiums or commissions brought in by the team or recruited producers.
- Market Influence: Ability to secure bond approvals that competitors cannot.
