Position Overview:
As an Agency Bill Manager, you will provide operational and financial leadership and contribute to a wide variety of complex projects involving the ongoing management of our team.  In addition to other critical accounting functions, this role provides an excellent opportunity to utilize your financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills to manage and build enhanced operational processes for accurate monthly financial posting and reporting.  As the manager, you will oversee Property Casualty accounting for agency billed policies with carriers/brokers. You will interact with many associates within our business, including client managers, operations leadership and accounting/finance and help develop and maintain data accuracy and integrity to maximize month end financials and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In collaboration with Accounting and Operational Leadership, materially contribute to core processes and special projects including developing and documenting process.  Responsibilities include:   
  • Manage a team of 15 Premium Payables and Receivable colleagues, with 2 – 3 direct reports. Including hiring, training, and evaluations.
  • Oversee the receipt of insureds payments, disbursement of funds to the carriers/brokers. 
  • Ensure the timely, accuracy and compliance of the Premium Payables and Receivables team.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient team environment focused on meeting departmental and customer service goals.
  • Monitor and report on metrics, analyze trends and suggest improvements.
  • Consistent follow-through and ability and flexibility to multi-task and effectively balance priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of directors, managers, and external accounting service groups.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate well with employees, carriers, and auditors
  • Monitor bank covenant compliance.
  • Support management with special projects such as the implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Ensure all transactions are recorded timely and accurately in the accounting system.
  • Reconcile client accounts for accuracy.
  • Oversee carrier / broker accounts for discrepancies and possible NOCs.
  • Policy management: assist client management team with reviewing and/or correcting estimated premium/commission and commission splits and production credit.  Guide users in responding to direct bill activities for timely resolution. 
  • Carrier payments:  Research missing payments and reach out to carriers to obtain and clarify carrier statements for review of proper payment and reconciliation; review unreconciled revenue based on unidentified receipts/statements.
  • Coordinate with accounting/finance and /or operations on all transactional tasks, including fielding all questions relating to agency bill policy and cash management. 
  • Key player in documenting and establishing process and procedures for the team.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
  • 10+ years’ experience in an insurance accounting function, ideally within a national brokerage firm or similar function of an insurance company.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years being a people leader
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Proven ability to act with responsiveness, urgency and professionalism in all matters while prioritizing responsibilities and proactively accomplishing goals.
  • Strong work ethic, exhibited through acceptable attendance, management of appropriate workload, and willingness to admit mistakes and take ownership of performance.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and management.
  • Experience working with external auditors and other outside partners.
  • Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced results-oriented environment.
  • Well organized and detail oriented; ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.  
  • Organized self-starter attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Applied Epic management system experience is a plus.
